Joel works as a smuggler there with his girlfriend Jesse. A thief named Robot steals their guns and sells them to the Fireflies, so Joel and Stess capture and kill him. And then Merlin, the leader of the Fireflies arrives, promising to return their guns and double payment, but only if they help the Fireflies get some stuff out of quarantine. Merlin herself could not do this because she was shot.
They both get ready to take the luggage out and realize that they have to smuggle a small teenage girl whose name is Ellie. All three of them leave the place as night falls. As soon as they get out of the quarantine zone, Some guards catch the trio and run an infection test on them, which Joel and Stess pass. It happens, but as soon as Ellie is tested, she kills the guards because she would be infected. Ellie says it’s been over three weeks since she was infected and is immune to the virus. And the Fireflies were looking to make a cure for the fungus with Ellie’s help. All three leave for the place they were told.
Jesse is killed in the midst of a lot of trouble in front of them. They overcome adversity and meet an army of Fireflies who knock Joel unconscious. When he wakes up, Merlin is in front of him and they are in a hospital. Joel asks Merlin “Where Ellie is? Then Merlin tells him Ellie is getting a surgical escort. In that surgery, they are going to remove the infected part of Ellie’s brain because they want to research it and make a vaccine. Joel finds out that Ellie will die in the surgery. He treated Ellie like his own daughter. Joel decides to save Ellie. He kills the fireflies soldier and reaches the operation room where he kills the doctor and goes to take Ellie from there then kills Merlin in the parking lot and takes Ellie in the car.
